Russian device "Mir-1" has plunged on Baikal on record depth
Record depth for two years of researches was subdued on Saturday by participants of expedition to Baikal, the Tape informs. RU.
Near the biggest island Olkhon in the centre of lake at cape Izhimej deep-water manned device "Mir-1" has reached depths of 1640 metres.
Earlier deep-water manned devices "Mir-1" and "Mir-2" reached a lake bottom on depth of 1608 metres. Thus officially was considered, that the maximum depth of Baikal - 1637 metres.

Immersing from a surface has to the bottom occupied more than hour. The skilled hydronaut, the Hero of Russia Anatoly Sagalevich supervised over operation. Bortnablyudatelyami the Swiss patron of art and businessman Frederik Paulsen and the vice-president of Association of polar explorers Vladimir Strugatsky worked. From a bottom of Baikal it was possible to lift rare samples of breeds, to take samples of water of the most deep-water point of lake and to spend a video shooting lasting many hours. Work in depths of Baikal proceeded five and a half hours.
Deep-operating vehicles "Mir-1" and "Mir-2" investigate Baikal since 2008. For two seasons expedition had been opened some new organisms and the place of an exit of oil in lake is revealed. On August, 1st, 2009 deep-water immersing to Baikal on device "Mir-1" was made by the prime minister of Russia Vladimir Putin. Depth of immersing has made 1,4 thousand metres.
