Remains of four mammoths have found in the south of Spain as precedent
Paleontologists have found out in Spain remains at least four adult individuals of the mammoth which age makes 35-26 thousand years. On it informs AFP.
The find has been made in a southern part of Iberian peninsula. According to researchers, in the Western Europe it was not possible to find remains of these ancient animals yet so far in the south: bones of mammoths found to the north of the fortieth parallel. The new find has been made almost on 300 kilometres to the south of this mark.
According to researchers, detection of bones confirms a hypothesis that during last glacial age of steppe on which mammoths wandered, were stretched far on the south. The given hypothesis also proves to be true samples of fossilized plants of that period. The similar situation was in southern and in east part of Eurasia: there the bones of the mammoth belonging to the given time interval, find in Georgia, China and Kamchatka.
More recently the Russian fishermen managed to find out in Urals Mountains perfectly remained skull of a mammoth which, on preliminary data, has spent under water of 20-50 thousand years. Now experts of the Ural branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences prepare expedition to the given region on purpose to find out, whether there are in this area still burial places of ancient animals.
Mammoths name representatives of died out sort Mammuthus. These animals who on appearance reminded the elephants covered with a wool, have appeared approximately 4,8 million years ago. It is considered, that their last representatives have died out only"4,5 thousand years ago.
