Manufacturers of TVs and prefixes wish to get rid of wires
The world’s largest manufacturers of electronics together will create the new wireless standard which will allow to transmit potokovoe HD-video from one source of a digital signal on the displays which are in different rooms at home or apartments, informs CNews referring to Associated Press.
Into a consortium have entered Sony, Samsung, Motorola, Sharp and Hitachi. The new standard under name WHDI (abbr. from Wireless Home Digital Interface – the digital house wireless interface) which will allow to get rid of the numerous cable used for connection of equipment for today becomes result of activity of the companies. The standard will be based on the technology developed by Israeli company Amimon.
«If at you houses are the TV, it can get access to any source in the house, be it a digital receiver in a drawing room, or PlayStation in a sleeping room, or a DVD-player in other room. Such possibilities bears WHDI», - tells one of founders Amimon Noam Geri (Noam Geri). Company Amimon already sells chips which offer a part of the possibilities set forth above. Adapter Belkin with such chip, for example, costs $1000. But creation of the uniform standard which will be accepted by the largest companies, means, that the buyer can acquire the TV with support WHDI of one mark and external TV-tuner – other, and thus it will not have any problems at connection of systems.
According to Geri, TVs with integrated chips Amimon and support WHDI will appear on sale in 2009 under the price for $100 above in comparison with the same systems without technology support.

Some vendoryi, for example, use for these purposes Wi-Fi, however the given technology of a wireless communication in view of restriction of the throughput requires signal compression that conducts to loss of quality of the image. Besides, signal compression on a source and its decoding on other end conduct to delay by transfer, that is the image appears on the display hardly later, than on a source.
One of variants of the decision of the given problems lays in use of not involved radio frequency of 60 GHz for a superfast signal transmission without a compression. Consortium WirelessHD created in 2006 into which also have entered Sony and Samsung attends to it. However, as it is informed now, work on standard WirelessHD is far from commercial realisation and moreover, this standard bears rather essential restriction – the signal transmission can be carried out on distance to 10 m, that is in a room, in any way on the whole house.
On a question on sharing in the parallel project representatives Sony have informed, that wish to have alternative. In company Samsung which is included also into group WirelessHD, consider technology WHDI as time until work on standard WirelessHD which in comparison with WHDI can supply nevertheless more a choice quality of the image will be finished and remains for longer term.
WHDI uses frequency of 5 GHz, same, as well as some Wi-Fi-devices. To avoid falling of quality of a signal at a compression experts Amimon have resorted to one artful reception. Before a signal transmission chip Amimon divides video into fragments which are sorted in two groups. Those parts of video signal get to the first group, distinctions between which are visible to a human eye, in the second – fragments, a difference in which the human eye does not catch. Then the important parts of the image are broadcast in less compressed condition.
