HP, Intel and Yahoo! Attend to the organisation of open laboratory on cloud computing

Leading corporations of the IT Industry work over creation of research laboratory Cloud Computing Test Bed. Researches will head Infocomm Development Authority in Singapore, University of the State of Illinois in Urbana-Shampejn and the Institute of technology in Karlsruhe.

Corporations HP, Intel and Yahoo! Declared creation of the global platforms covering set, open computing laboratory for development of researches and workings out in area «cloud computing».
«Cloud computing» represents the approach when the complex toolkit fom hardware and the software is accessible to the user through Internet in the form of the service, allowing to use the convenient web-interface for remote access to the allocated resources.
The given initiative allows to overcome a number of financial and material barriers, thereby promoting cooperation of representatives of branch, scientific community and the state organisations in the field of Internet calculations with high intensity of data processing.
Laboratory Cloud Computing Test Bed created HP, Intel and Yahoo!, represents globally distributed test Internet environment which supports the researches directed on development ON, perfection of management by data-processing centres and the decision of the hardware problems connected with considerably increased volume of Internet calculations. The given initiative also will promote occurrence of new Internet appendices and services.
Within the limits of new project HP, Intel and Yahoo! Co-operate with Infocomm Development Authority in Singapore (IDA), University of the State of Illinois in Urbana-Shampejn and the Institute of technology in Karlsruhe, Germany (KIT). The National scientific fund, piece also participates In the initiative Illinois.
Originally the laboratory will include six «the skill centres», possessed on platforms IDA, University of the State of Illinois in Urbana-Shampejn, Shtejnbushsky computer centre of an institute of technology in Karlsruhe, laboratories HP, organisation Intel Research and Yahoo!. On each platform the infrastructure cloud computing, based on base of hardware HP and powerful processors Intel will be organised. For support of calculations with high intensity of data processing will be involved from 1000 to 4000 computing nucleuses. It is expected, that all platforms which are a part of laboratory, will be full-function and will supply with access of researchers all over the world which will be selected later this year.
Successful activity of laboratory will be promoted by the open distributed computing system Apache Hadoop developed by organisation Apache Software Foundation, and also other open distributed ON on the basis of language of parallel programming Pig of organisation Yahoo! Research.
«Laboratory Cloud Computing Test Bed creation confirms aspiration HP, Intel and Yahoo! To creation of global research community which will attend to development of new methods of work on the Internet, — has declared Prabhakar Raghavan (Prabhakar Raghavan), the head of organisation Yahoo! Research. – This laboratory will allow not only to researchers to test Internet appendices, but also will supply with their direct access to computing systems that will allow them to understand better how functions hardware and the software in cloud computing environment».
Employees of laboratories HP, the basic research link of company HP, will use new laboratory for realisation of the expanded researches for the purpose of creation of intellectual infrastructures and dynamic Internet-services. The basic focus of activity of laboratory HP now is comprehensive support of corporation HP and its clients on technology use cloud computing which corresponds to concept HP «Everything as a Service», or «All as service». According to this concept, systems and services will be granted directly through a global network, and the organisations and private persons will use, satisfying their requirements depending on a site, preferences, a season.
«To realise all possibilities of technology cloud computing, representatives of branch should accept this platform as a basis for creation of new services and computing possibilities. Absolutely new approach to working out, introduction and management of an infrastructure and services cloud is for this purpose necessary, – considers Prit Banerzhi (Prith Banerjee), the main vice-president of research division HP and the director of laboratories HP. — Laboratory Cloud Computing Test Bed created HP, Intel and Yahoo!, will allow us to unite efforts of representatives of branch, scientific community and the state organisations for creation of innovations in this area».
Corporation Intel grants processors, sets of microcircuits, network adapters and solid-state disks (SSD, solid state drive), necessary for expansion of computer centres cloud computing. Now on a new platform such functions, as Data Center Management Interface (DCMI), Node Manager (NM) and means virtualizatsii, the conveniences of management intended for increase and maintenance of effective work of computer centres are realised. This open joint research project will allow its participants to get complete access to hardware for creation of innovative decisions for the present and future platforms.
«Organisation Intel Research is glad to possibility of cooperation with scientific community in the field of development of our distributed network architecture, – has declared Andrew Chin (Andrew A. Chien), the vice-president and director Intel Research. – it is very important to create the large-scale research centres, since. They allow to introduce free innovations and grant the big possibilities for realisation of experiments and training. Intel supports system Tashi on the basis of open initial codes for management klasterami cloud computing, and project HP, Intel and Yahoo! Is a logical consequence of our constant and fruitful cooperation with research community, including with Universal Parallel Computing Research Centers».
IDA will expand volume of researches in new laboratory, granting the users the computing resources necessary for working out ON and appendices for technology cloud computing. IDA will expand also an operative range of laboratory and partnership with representatives of branch for training of students and professionals to technologies and the programs connected with cloud computing.
«Thanks to availability of computing Internet resources in Singapore for support of researches and workings out in area cloud computing we can adjust cooperation with adherents and considerably expand use of this technology, – is assured Hung Hok Is young (Khoong Hock Yun), the deputy of the chief executive of division Infrastructure Development Group of company Infocomm Development Authority in Singapore. – many consider cloud computing as the new tendency in development of computing technologies, and it can become the following platform for construction innovative ekosistem. The partnership of a similar sort will allow Singapore to use this new concept for development of an economic and social infrastructure».

Laboratory Cloud Computing Test Bed – the next step to development of the initiatives which are conducted HP, Intel and Yahoo! In area cloud computing. In November, 2007 company Yahoo! Declared opening of supercomputer computer centre M45 for researches in area cloud computing. Carnegie-Mellon’s university became the first organisation using possibilities of this global supplier. Company Yahoo! Also declared the conclusion this year agreements with Computational Research Laboratories (CRL) for joint support of researches in area cloud computing, and also about availability of 10 most high-speed supercomputers to the Indian educational institutions. Earlier this year company Yahoo! Has organised first meeting Hadoop Summit and symposium Data-Intensive Computing Symposium. As the sponsor of these actions consortium Computing Community Consortium (CCC) also has acted. During the major industrial actions leading experts commercial, scientific and government agencies could discuss the questions connected with directions of future development Hadoop and calculations with high intensity of data exchange.
In 2008 company HP declared creation of organisation Scalable Computing and Infrastructure Organization (SCI) to which specialised resources and the accumulated experience for creation of high-efficiency scaled decisions for the clients requiring technology cloud computing will be transmitted. The company has presented scaled computing systems, including model HP ProLiant BL2×220c G5 on base chetyireh’yadernyih processors Intel Xeon – the first-ever blejd-server combining two independent servers in one module and constructed on the basis of the newest processors Intel, executed on innovative 45-nanometer to technological process; StorageWorks 9100 Extreme Data Storage System (ExDS9100), system with the scalability high level, allowing to operate given in the volume in some petabayt. HP also offers open architecture HP POD (Performance-Optimized Datacenter), representing compact and custom-made alternative to standard IT Resources.
