Colombia has ordered 65 thousand laptops XO manufactured by fund "to Each child on the laptop" (OLPC), informs Лента.ru referring to BBC News. Leptopyi are intended for schoolboys of the Colombian region Kaldas.
According to the agreement between OLPC and the Ministry of Education of Colombia, the pilot lot from 15 thousand laptops will be received by pupils of rural schools. Remained leptopyi will be distributed within 18 months in larger settlements.
Also the question of delivery of laptps XO in some schools of the Colombian capital of Bogota is discussed.
Laptops XO are equipped by processor AMD with clock frequency of 500 megahertz, 128 mbytes of operative memory and 512-megabajtnym a flesh-disk for information storage. Besides, in leptope it is provided by the generator which allows the computer to work without connection to the electric system. It was supposed, that the price of laptops XO will make hundred dollars. However now they stand 188 dollars.
Initially leptopyi XO intended for work under control of operating system Sugar on the basis of nucleus Linux. However by September of this year laptops XO will start to equip simultaneously with two operating systems: Sugar and Windows XP.
Hardly it is more weeks ago OLPC announced laptop XO-2 which consists of two large-format touch displays. XO-2 should will appear in 2010. Its guessed price will make 75 dollars.
