Bill Gates and Michael Blumberg are going to struggle with smoking
Founder Microsoft Bill Gates (Bill Gates) and the mayor of New York Michael Blumberg (Michael Bloomberg) will struggle in common with tobacco smoking, on what will spend $500 million, writes CNews.
It is expected, that permanent assets in this campaign will be directed on such countries, as Russia, China, Bangladesh, India and Indonesia. Welfare fund Blumberga will allocate for these purposes of $250 within next four years, in addition to $125 million which it has been declared still two years ago. Bill and Melindy Gates’s fund (Melina Gates) will allocate $125 million more within five years.
Since 1999, Bill Gates’s welfare fund has spent more than $2 mlrd for various programs on struggle against AIDS and about $1,2 mlrd on struggle against a malaria, informs NYTimes.
«Even all money in the world will not help to eradicate tobacco completely. But this new partnership proves, that more and more people wishes to help us with struggle against given killing epidemic», - Michael Blumberg has told.
According to data of the last report of the World Organization of Public health services, Gates’s donation and Blumberga considerably surpass the operational expenditure on struggle against smoking in poor and developing countries where for these purposes it is allocated about $20 million a year.
The World Organization of Public health services, the World pulmonary fund will participate in new campaign for struggle against smoking (World Lung Foundation), School of public public health services of John Hopkins and Blumberga (Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health), the Center under the control and preventive maintenance of diseases and Campaign for protection of children from tobacco (Prevention and the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids).
Within the limits of new campaign charitable foundations will urge the governments of the various countries to raise considerably taxes to tobacco production, to forbid smoking in public places, display of advertising of cigarettes to children, distribution of cigarettes free of charge in the advertising purposes. Also it is planned to start various advertising against smoking and to offer the help to those people who wish to get rid of nicotinic dependence.
Doctor Richard Pito (Richard Peto), the epidemiologist from Oxford which carries out various researches about smoking consequences in developing countries, named Gates’s initiative and Blumberga «remarkable news». «I am assured, that it will allow to avoid tens millions death now and hundreds millions in the future», - he has told.
The manager on public relations of company Philip Morris to which belongs Marlboro - the most popular in the world cigarette bernd, has declared, that children need to be protected from smoking, but increase of taxes to tobacco production will cause increase in fakes and contraband.
According to the World Organization of Public health services, from tobacco smoking in the XXI-st century will die nearby 1 mlrd people, that ten times more than in the XX-th century.
